MAY 2011 Issue

Wanna Race?
Posted May 26th
The RRYC Junior Sailing Division wants to know if any of its junior members would like to continue racing this summer at other area regattas.  If so, please email Bo Bragg and plan to get together after the final spring race at RRYC this coming Sunday May 29th to discuss a schedule for training and travel for three to four area regattas over the summer.  Here are some of the regattas we are considering.

June 25th:  Fishing Bay Yacht Club Junior Regatta

June 26th:  Norfolk Yacht & Country Club Wolcott Memorial Regatta

July 1st:  Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club Junior Regatta

July 2nd & 3rd:  Junior Olympics Festival at Hampton Yacht Club.  This will be a great event.  There   will be all kinds of divisions in which to compete.  Tom Coleman of McLaughlin will be there to run the Optimist green fleet.  Those of you who participated in his green fleet during the OptiNationals know what a great opportunity it is.

July 29th:  At home at RRYC for the Junior Regatta

Auguest 2nd & 3rd:  Ware River Yacht Club Govenors Cup

Permission to come ashore? by Arabella Denvir | Premier Sailing
Do any RRYC members or friends of members have a beach where we could land for lunch some day in early June?  The RRYC Training Week on June 6-10 will include some voyaging and we would love to have a destination so that we could plan a little trip and sail there, land, eat our sandwiches and depart again.  We can put you on our insurance policy.  Could be anywhere in Carter's Creek or even out on the river but not too far away.

Sailors signed up for that week will enjoy learning more about the other side of sailing - not racing, but really improving their sailing skills and learning to go places, to tie Monkeys Fists,  stronger sailors will learn how to tow younger sailors boats, how to sail backwards...lots of new skills.   And we still have room for a few more so contact Arabella on 438 9300.
